The Chauvet Cave was discovered in 1994 in Vallon Pont d’Arc, in the Ardèche. Plans for a replica were first mooted in the early 2000s. The Chauvet Cave 2 – Ardèche, currently the world’s largest replica of a decorated cave, opened in 2005.

Accompanied by a guide or using an audio guide, in small groups of around twenty people, visitors walk along a walkway – just as in the original cave – to explore the 27 panels and the hundreds of animals depicted. The 250-metre route is marked by 10 observation points.

The works, undertaken by the operator Kléber Roussillon, involve refurbishing the lighting systems installed at the time of the opening 20 years ago. The lighting allows visitors to explore the 8,200 m² of scenery created (floor, walls, ceilings).
